Kaul is a traditional festival celebrated by the Melanau living along the coast of Sarawak. In the past, Kaul was looked upon as a religious ceremony to appease the spirits of the sea, land, forest and farm making it the most important festival in the Melanau calender. The festival is a ritual of purification and thanksgiving as well as one of the propitiation for good fortune. Its marks the beginning of the Melanau calender which begins at the end of the Northeast monsoon.

SARIKEI: The Sarawak Youth Carnival programme for N.39 Repok constituency will be held at the central market here on March 12 and 13.
A host of activities had been drawn up for the two-day event aimed at bringing together the youth in the state to participate in the various programmes designed towards realising the ‘1 Youth 1 Malaysia’ concept espoused by the government.
They included aerobic exercise for all participants, exhibitions by various government agencies, sports (Futsal, Basketball, Petanque, Sepak takraw) Telematch, Kite , Auto show, Karaoke, live band presentation by local and invited recording artistes.
Also in the programme’s list is Guitar Clinic conducted by Along Exist and ‘Wayang Pancak’
